Alex Zanardi

Born in Bologna in 1966, Alessandro began racing gokarts in 1980.
After a long racing career full of both satisfaction and disappointment, he finally found sporting fortune in the USA where he won the Indycar world championship twice (1997 and '98).
He also raced in Formula 1, yet definitive 'glory' came in Europe after a terrible accident at the Lausitzring in which he lost both legs.
His incredible return to life, and motor racing, astonished the public, who saw in him a miraculous example of willpower and optimism.
In 2003, together with friend and journalist Gianluca Gasparini, he told his story in My Sweetest Victory (Baldini Castoldi Dalai), the book that won the Bancarella Sport prize 2004.
